The Weather of the Mind

The hours spent at the easel often become a quiet mirror for the mind. Lately, as I have been slowly building the atmospheric layers of my current work, the clouds have revealed themselves as something more than just a physical backdrop. They have come to symbolise a true culmination of ideas. Just as a stream of thought is constantly changing and flowing, these forms shift under the brush. Some moments yield thoughts that are light and soft, while others inevitably gather into something heavy, dark, and stormy.

Standing in sharp contrast to this organic, shifting weather of the mind is the void. This stark, deep black space holds a very specific psychological weight. It is a reflection on the quiet, isolating allure of digital screens, born from my own deep ruminations on screen addiction and how it alters our internal silence. It represents that hypnotic pull, an unyielding abyss that interrupts the natural, chaotic flow of our consciousness.

Navigating the boundary between these two opposing spaces requires an immense amount of patience, but I am continually reminded that the time spent directly equals the finer details achieved. Moving through the slow, methodical process of painting these clouds has not been a dreadful task, but rather a deeply cathartic one. There is a profound irony in this practice. The core concept of the work is ultimately about finding a kind of acceptance of the dread that naturally comes with the flow of time. By sitting with the discomfort, the heavy dread slowly transforms into quiet understanding. - Mickee
